Mangaluru : The Lokayukta authorities have apprehended the commissioner of Mangaluru Urban Development Authority alongside a middleman on charges of allegedly receiving a bribe amounting to ₹25 lakh in return for facilitating Transferable Development Rights (TDR) clearance for the briber.
As per statements from law enforcement officials, the arrested commissioner has been named as Mansoor Ali, while the middleman goes by the name Mohammad Saleem.
Chaluvaraju B, who is currently overseeing the responsibilities of the police superintendent at Karnataka Lokayukta, Mangaluru, disclosed that Mansoor Ali purportedly solicited ₹25 lakh from the informant in exchange for granting TDR clearance for their property.
Acting upon a sting operation devised by the Lokayukta team, both suspects were apprehended in the act of accepting the bribe, law enforcement officials have revealed.
Additionally, a sum of ₹25 lakh, believed to be the bribe in question, was confiscated from the suspects, who are presently under police custody.
An ongoing inquiry into the incident is being conducted to delve deeper into the matter.
