
Mangaluru: The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) Vice Chancellor Dr. Sacchidanand informed that Mangaluru would get its regional centre shortly.
Dr. Sacchidanand was in city to attend the 142nd Syndicate meeting of Rajiv Gandhi University at Hotel Ocean Pearl of the city on Saturday, June 29. After the meeting, he said that the university would soon have four regional centres in the state including one at Mangaluru. A land has been identified at Kavoor for the construction of regional centre.
He said, “The regional centres of the university will be set up in Davanagere, Belgaum, Gulbarga and Mangaluru. In order to give preference to sports activities, Mangaluru’s regional centre will also come up with a sports complex. With the establishment of regional centre, the students and college representatives need not to come and visit Bengaluru for getting their work done.”
Sacchidanand also informed that RGUHS, for the first time in the country, was introducing scholarship for the students (second year MBBS students) to encourage research students. “Students are provided an opportunity to research on any subject they are interested in. The university has provided such opportunity to 271 poor and deserving students in the previous academic year”, he added.
Deputy Secretary of Medical Education Dr. Chandrashekhar, AYUSH Commissioner Meenakshi Negi, Director of Health and Family Welfare Dr. T S Prabhakar, RGUHS Registrar Shivanand Kapashi among others were present.
