Mangaluru: Perne gas tanker accident memorialises lives lost

Mangaluru: Ten years have passed since the tragic incident on April 9, 2013, when a cooking gas tanker met with an accident at Perne near Uppinangady, killing 13 people belonging to several families and injuring several others.

 

The tanker carrying gas from Mangaluru to Bengaluru met with an accident at Perne turn and overturned and caught fire due to a gas leak, causing the fire to spread all over the surroundings, leaving people inside the houses and shops on fire.
While nine people, including a woman and children, died on the spot, four of the injured succumbed to their injuries at a hospital.

In a heart-rending incident, a young man can be seen running on the highway to save his life by burning his clothes and skin.

Ashok Kumar Rai, the promoter of Kodimbadi Rai Estate Educational and Charitable Trust, had formed a victims action committee to demand justice for the victims after the tanker tragedy.
