Mangaluru: “Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar had special respect for his state and the people. He was known for his vision and committed administration. He was the harbinger of the era of development of Kannada and Karnataka. He founded the Kannada Sahitya Parishat as early as 1915 when he started many institutions of social benefit, including educational institutions, said SDM Autonomous College Administrative Registrar Prof. S.N. Kakatkar.

He was speaking after inaugurating the 139th birth anniversary celebrations of Kannada Sahitya Parishath, founder Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar at Dhimanth-Dhimahi Hostel auditorium of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Autonomous College, Ujire.

Sahitya Parishat District President Dr. M.P. Srinath spoke “Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar was not a person but a great soul, a unique achiever.
As per his wish, the Zilla Sahitya Parishath is making efforts to reach out to the students and the people and conduct many programmes,” he said.

Dr. Rajesh B, Professor, SDM PU College, who delivered the lecture, spoke on the occasion.

“He was a distinguished person who grew up with human values with best culture given by his mother, a protector of Kannada literature and culture, had a great humane conscience and was very concerned about the citizens. He implemented schemes that benefited the citizens by selling his own jewellery. He was a patron to many poets. He was a patron of many poets and a saviour of evil practices,” said B. Somashekar Shetty, Student Welfare Officer, SDM Educational Institutions.

Taluk unit president Yadupati Gowda welcomed the gathering.
