Mangaluru: Konaje police on Friday arrested a married man on charges of molesting a NRI student from the USA.

According to the police, the accused has been identified as Abubakker Siddique (33), a resident of Madani Nagar.

The 19-year-old girl had been to a computer cyber located at the ground floor of an apartment building on November 18. Abubakker, who manages the cyber allegedly molested her, while she was working on a computer in a cabin, the police said. 

The girl, an NRI from the USA, is studying in the second year at a reputed nursing college, which falls on the Thokkottu-Konaje stretch. 

Sources said Abubakker allegedly threatened the girl and warned her against revealing the incident to anyone. Though initially she hesitated, she later confided in her college principal who in turn informed her parents.

Finally, the complaint was filed in Konaje police station on November 21 and the same day the accused was arrested and produced in court.
