Mangaluru: ‘Kambala, Yakshagana eyes of the folk field’

Mangaluru: Urban Development and Housing Minister U. T. Khader, said, “Kambala and Yakshagana are the eyes of the folk field of our District and it is the responsibility of all of us to preserve and nurture it.

He was speaking at a programme organised under the Chairmanship of Ramanath Rai, Former Member of the State Pollution Control Board, Pius L. Rodrigues at a programme organised in the name of Kudibailuvilli Bantwal Kambala at Navoor Village in Bantwal Taluk on the evening of Saturday March 4. “By organising Mudur Padur Kambala, the Kambala culture of Tulunadu will be introduced to the youth. When the Supreme Court ordered to stop the Kambala sport, B. Ramanatha Rai was the District In-Charge minister at that time. It was Ramanath Rai and the MLAs who had convinced the Court through the Government and were responsible for the resumption of Kambala,” he said.

Kambala Samiti Honorary President and Former Minister B. Ramanath Rai presided over the function. Rev. Fredric Monteiro, pastor of St. Anthony’s Church, Allipade, former MLC Ivan D’Souza, former MLA Vasanth Bangera, former Rajya Sabha member B. Ibrahim, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committe member Prithviraj R.K. Prominent personalities like Rohit Shetty Nagriguttu, Shalet Pinto, Ravishankar Shetty Badajeguttu, Shekhar Kukkedi, Venkappa Kajava, Prashanth Kajava, Padmanabha Kotian, Ashok Kumar Rai, Padmaraj R., Mohammed Badagannur, Umanath Shetty, Dharanendra Kumar, Pratibha Kulai, Puttur Youth Congress President Sriprasad, Rachana Awardee Progressive Agriculturist Leo Fernandes were present on the dais.

Kambala Samiti Convener Padmashekar Jain, Working President Chandraprakash Shetty Thumbay, General Secretary Rajeev Shetty Edthur, Treasurer Philip Frenk, Vice-Presidents Mayilappa Salian, Sudarshan Jain, Baby Kunder, Sudeep Kumar, M. S. Mohammed, Chitta Ranjan Shetty, Venkappa Poojary Bantwal, Abbas Ali and others were present. Achievers of the senior Kambala field were felicitated at the event.
