Mangaluru: Jewellery shop murder case, single shop targeted

Mangaluru: Shifas (30), the accused in the murder of a salesman was targeting single jewellery shop, said Police commissioner Kuldeep R Jain.

Addressing a press conference he said that during the investigation, it was found that the accused was roaming not only in Mangaluru but also in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Goa with the intention of committing similar acts. The police have been asked to provide information if such a robbery has taken place in other states, he said.

“It was a challenge to trace the accused. His face was clearly not recorded in any CCTV camera. Hence, his appearance and pictures recorded on CCTV cameras were posted on the media and information was sought from the public. As per social media post, t he Kasaragod Police finally had detained a suspect. He was identified on the basis of the bag he was wearing. Later, when the Mangaluru Police interrogated him, it was found that he was the accused, the Commissioner said.

“The accused’s idea was to throw the cloth somewhere as it was covered with blood after he had stabbed the salesman with a knife. He used to wear 3 to 4 clothes one on top of the other. He was dressed in the same way when he was taken into custody in Kasaragod, Commissioner added.

Police Commissioner said that it has come to light that he was planning to commit a similar act. in Kasaragod too.
