Mangaluru: The VHP has demanded stricter enforcement of the prevention of animal sacrifices act.
Speaking to mediapersons on Friday July 1, VHP Prantha Goraksha Pramukh Kateel Dinesh Pai said that transporting cattle for sacrifice is a punishable offence. Drivers, livestock owners and vehicle owners who engage in illegal transportation are culprits. Not only the police can arrest such illegal cattle traffickers but also the public can stop them and handover the perpetrators to the police station.
Pai also added that if anyone gets any information about people who transport cattle, illegally can call 112 or animal helpline 2277100200.
Under the Karnataka Cattle Slaughter Prevention and Protection Act 2020, cattle below 13 years of age are not allowed to be sacrificed. According to Section 12 of this act , 3-7 years imprisonment and fine of Rs. 50000 to Rs. 5 lakh can be imposed. A fine of up to Rs. 10 lakh will be imposed if the offense is repeated. Also the place of sacrifice can be confiscated. The place will be forfeited forever if he is found guilty, Pai added.
