Mangaluru: The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), which oversees the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), the top intelligence and investigation agency for fighting smuggling, commemorated the 65th Foundation Day in New Delhi. On the occasion, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented bravery award to DRI Mishal Queenie D’Costa, IRS, the Deputy Director of Indirect Taxes at Mumbai Customs, for showing extraordinary bravery while chasing Nigerian drug dealers in Mumbai without fear for her life.
Nigerian drug dealers were caught in an operation with 1.9 kgs of drug tablets during the last financial year when they jumped from a building roof. While waiting for the complete force to come, Mishal, who is from Neerude in Dakshina Kannada, followed the culprits and physically prevented them from escaping. On DRI Foundation Day, she was given the bravery award for her excellent achievement.
Mishal, the second of the three children of Lazarus and Nancy D’Costa of Neerude, got the 387th position in the 2015 UPSC civil service examination.
