Mangaluru: K. Harish Kumar, MLC, and president of Dakshina Kannada Congress Committee announced that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will visit Mangaluru and Udupi on August 1 to assess rain damages. The Chief Minister’s arrival at the airport is scheduled for 10.20 a.m.
In response to the Union government’s failure to control violence in Manipur, Congress workers plan to stage a protest in Mangaluru. The protest will take place in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue at Lalbagh. Mr. Kumar expressed concern about the ongoing violence in Manipur that remains unresolved for three months.
During the same event, former MLC Ivan D’Souza called for legislation to punish moral policing incidents for up to seven years to prevent such incidents, particularly in the coastal belt.
Mr. D’Souza also condemned a recent alleged moral policing incident involving two individuals harassing a police constable and his wife in Bantwal town on July 27. He questioned the silence of the Bantwal MLA and the lack of discussion by the BJP on this issue.
