Mangaluru: The incident took place on Sunday night when a car, which was travelling from Kottigehara to Ujire, lost control of the driver near the second turn of Charmadi Ghat and fell into a ditch about 100 metres below.

Ujire gram panchayat president Pushpavathi R. Shetty and his family were returning after visiting the house of a deceased relative at Koppa when the accident occurred. According to preliminary information, five others, including Shetty’s daughter Poornima Shetty, grandson Samriddh and relative Sarojini Shetty, sustained serious injuries and the injured have been admitted to various hospitals.

Belthangady traffic police have reached the spot and are investigating. It is learnt that more people had gathered at the accident site.
