Mangaluru boy wins stamp design competition

Mangaluru: Mangaluru’s young artist Vaibhav Shenoy, who has made a series of contributions to the London-based ‘Look and Learn’ website – a picture library for schools and teachers – has gone to win the national level stamp design competition organised to mark Republic Day on the theme of ‘Swaccha Bharath’.

The stamp is expected to be available in post offices soon.

One of the three stamps released recently by Union Minister for Communication and IT, Ravishankar Prasad is modeled on the design sent by Shenoy.

Shenoy’s painting on green India and clean water highlighted the need to conserve water and stressed on sanitation. But only a part of his work was retained in the stamp. A science student of Canara PU College, here, he has also received the district Rajyotsava award and was the winner of State government’s title “Kalashree”. Art continues to be a hobby for Vaibhav, who may pursue a career in architecture or engineering.

The newly released stamps, are yet to reach the post offices, according to his father Vaikunta Shenoy, who works for a Union Government undertaking.
