Mangaluru: K. Byrappa, Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University said that the fee hiked for the postgraduation courses from the academic year 2015-16 will be reduced
At a special meeting of the academic council on Saturday, he told media that now the fee hike would be 10 per cent to 12 per cent from what it was in the academic year 2014-15, and not more than that.
Earlier it had increased the fee of at least 15 post graduation courses from 18 per cent to 30 per cent. Student organisations, which had opposed it, had urged the university to roll back the increase. Mr. Byrappa said that Syndicate of the university, which met on Friday, decided to reduce the hike.
When asked about the mistakes in degree certificates issued at the 33rd annual convocation of the university on June 17, he said that mistakes had been found in 325 certificates. All those candidates would be issued new corrected certificates.
Earlier at the academic council meeting, B. Narayana, Registrar (Evaluation), said that the university had written letters to those who have been issued with certificates with errors to surrender them and get the corrected ones. Some of them have been contacted over phone, informing them about replacing the old certificates.
According to Mr. Narayana, the printer would have to bear the cost of printing new certificates. Earlier, in a release to media the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP), he had said that the certificates did not mention the ‘A’ grade accreditation to the university by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
In his letter dated June 20 to the Mangalore University Research Scholars’ Association, Mr. Byrappa had acknowledged the errors in the certificates issued. Earlier, a member in the academic council raised this subject.
