Mangaluru: In a remarkable gesture, Mangalore University has awarded a PhD degree posthumously to an assistant professor, on its 34th convocation ceremony on Wednesday, March 30.

Serving as an assistant professor at College of Fisheries, Iqlas Ahmed (55) lost his life in a road accident on October 21, 2013.

The doctorate was conferred for Ahmed’s thesis “Ecophysiology of carp seed packaging and transport.” He had submitted it a few months before his death.
