Mangalore to have Semi-specialty govt. health clinics

Mangalore: The state minister for health UT Khader has told about starting semi-specialty public health clinics in mangalore under the National Urban Health Development program  , and thus making the city a model one in the state.

Speaking to the media in the press meet held in the Eden Club Hall, Khader said that four town panchayat’s of the state including the Ullal, Bagalkot will be taken as the model town panchayat’s in the state by developing the health facilities. And for Ullal panchayat a project of nine and half crore is designed.

The plan to make mangalore a model city, will commence soon as a master plan of 20 crore has been already made ready and according to this measures will be taken to upgrade the facilities in the wenlock hospital and a new specialty hospital in the district will be built in vamanjoor so that patients will not be over crowded in wenlock hospital as now and land has been already marked for that. 

The proposed semi-specialty  govt. health clinics will include four specialist doctors, all from different dept. and they will work on the contract basis and we are thinking even to depute the doctors of the wenlock hospital to these clinics. These clinics will provide the facilities in between of a primary health center and a super specialty hospital. Skilled staff including ANM nurses and lab technicians will also be deputed to these clinics including a sophisticated laboratory, he said.

An ambulance will also be provided to the , which will cover a population range of 50 to 60,000.

The issue of 108 will be solved soon:

The health minister also said that he has spoken to the 108 ambulance staff and we have requested the staff to stop the hunger strike and we have also told the GVK officials to take back the suspension order so that from both the sides issues are resolved and 108 service will resume soon. And with this concern we have called a meeting on 14th of this month and the GVK officials and representatives of the 108 staff are also expected to participate.

Hospital upgradation:

There are plans to upgrade District Wenlock Hospital to Multi-Specilaity Hospital. In case of availability of land, there are plans to set up a new hospital. A land has been identified in Vamanjoor. However, action plan is yet to be set, he said.

He also informed that all PHC’s will be upgraded, under the NHM so that people can avail the best benefits.


Wenlock visit:

With regard to the upgradation of Wenlock Hospital to a Multi Specialty Hospital, the NHM team along with Health Minister U T Khader, visited the hospital and conducted inspection.


District Surgeon and Superintendent Dr Rajeshwari Devi H R told the Minister, that Wenlock Hospital needs a emergency ward, a specialised OT facility, a specialised blood bank, upgraded ICU facility and cancer treatment facility.

The hospital has 750 beds, which needs to be upgraded to 1000, she said.
“Steps will be taken to upgrade Wenlock hospital. There are plans to build a new building, in the hospital premises with the latest facilities. Wenlock also needs a ward for people who are mentally ill. Morgue also needs to be developed, and waiting room should be made for people, who are mostly devastated as they come to collect the mortal remains of their loved ones,” he said.

He also inspected the hospital premises, and advised that the elevator should be changed.

Queen Abbakka issue:  

The minister said that the speaker may not be aware of the contribution of the Queen Abbakka to this land. So I will explain the contributions of the Queen to the speaker.
