The district administration of Dakshina Kannada has started water rationing in reaction to the rising heat and decreasing water levels in different taluks. Due to the Thumbay dam’s dropping water levels, rationing will start on May 5.Water will therefore be supplied in Mangaluru North and South on alternate days.

Mangaluru North will receive water on even days, beginning on May 6, and Mangaluru South will receive water on odd days, beginning on May 5.

This action is taken in the middle of a water shortage and insufficient pre-monsoon precipitation. Similar rationing procedures were in place the previous year around this time, but they were removed after the June rains arrived.

Furthermore, water rationing has been implemented in Puttur Taluk. Water will also be provided on alternate days to areas under the 12 gram panchayats’ jurisdiction, such as Bannur, Aryapu, Nekkiladi, Keyyur, Kedambadi, Bajathur, and Olamogru.
