The India Meteorological Department said on Thursday that the heatwave will end today (Friday), with the exception of West Rajasthan and Kerala.
Strong moisture flow from the Bay of Bengal is also boosting thunderstorm activity nationwide, according to the weather service.
“The nationwide heatwave is going to come to an end. Only Kerala and West Rajasthan have been alerted to a heatwave,” IMD scientist Soma Sen told news agency ANI.
“Tomorrow, the heatwave will only be present in West Rajasthan,” she stated.
A yellow notice has been issued in some areas of the nation, according to the IMD scientist.
“We have issued a yellow alert because we don’t have a lot of hope for the impact (rain activity).”
The weather service warned of intense lightning and thunderstorms, along with heavy rain, for the northeast and other hilly areas.
Thunderstorm activity is rising as a result of the country’s strong moisture input from the Bay of Bengal. Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Assam, Meghalaya, and other neighboring states could experience cloud-to-ground lightning, the spokesperson stated.
In the meantime, the IMD warned that Friday could bring hailstorms and strong winds to several areas of Madhya Pradesh in a tweet on Thursday.
Despite Tuesday’s high temperature of 42 degrees Celsius in the nation’s capital, Delhi’s weather agency forecast rain throughout this week.
