Mangalore: Padmashree Dr. Virendra Hegde inaugurated the 39th mens and 31st womens senior national power-lifting championship by blooming PINGARA(coconut flower) in the town hall of Mangalore.
Dr. Hegde and the guests moved the power lifting bar and filled enthusiasm among the athletes.
Addressing the august gathering Dr. Hegde said that in the ancient times our ancestors used to be fit and strong and were able to do any physical work assigned to them. This land used to be the land of warriors people of this land used to safeguard the territory from enemies. With them we had our farmer brothers who too used to have a great physique due to their hard work and was a natural body-building exercise.
But at present due do the modernization and consumption of processed food, our youngsters are not able to have a healthy body. But the good news is that in the recent days the artificial exercise is contributing to the health and good physique which is a good sign.
He congratulated all the powerlifting federations for organizing this prestigious championship in the city. He later said that it is a great opportunity to the athletes and people of Mangalore to interact with the athletes of international caliber.
He wished that this championship will be a motivation for all the sports and gave a call to all the athletes to participate in the true sportsmanship and wished all the best to them.
MLA of Mangalore south constituency, JR Lobo, Honorable secretary of Asian powerlifting association, Subrata Datta,Dr. Mohan Alva, Chairman of Alva’s foundation, Chairman of the organizing committee and president of Karnataka Powerlifting Association, secretary of the organizing committee Satish Kumar Kudroli, Advocate PP Hegde were among the dignitaries present at the occasion.
This event has been organized by Indian Powerlifting Federation , in association with Karnataka Powerlifting Association and Dakshina Kannada powerlifting Association as the local host.
The event will be held from 21st to 26th October at the Town hall and Kulala Bhavan and the national powerlifting federation has dedicated this event to Swami Vivekananda on his 150th birth anniversary.
