Mangalore : An awareness chariot on the problem of child labour, intended at making the district free from child labour, was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner N Prakash at the DC office premises on march 20, Wednesday. The Awareness Chariot is a joint initiative of the District Administration, District Child Labour Project Society and Labour Department.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC said it was a punishable offence under the Child Labour Prohibition and Control Act, to employ children below 14 years. The employers of child labour are liable to pay penalty ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000, he said.
Assistant Labour Commissioner of Mangalore Division, Nagesh who was present, said the Chariot which will travel the length and breadth of the district for 10 days will tour Moodbidri on March 21, Bantwal on March 22 and 23, Puttur on March 24 and 25, Sullia on March 26 and 27 and Belthangady on March 29.
ZP Chief Executive officer Dr KN Vijayaprakash, MCC Commissioner Dr Harish Kumar, Additional DC Dayanand KA, Labour Commissioner Dr Balakrishna, Labour officers Anandamurthi, Kumar Jnanesh and others were present.
