Mangaluru: The District Additional and Sessions Court here has convicted a man for murder of his mother and sister and sentenced him for life term.

Judge C M Joshi pronounced the sentence on Wednesday. Apart from the life term, Vasu has been imposed a fine of Rs 5,000. If the convict fails to pay the fine, he will send an additional 6 months in the jail.

Vasu Poojary (44,) from Nelligudde in Elathur in the taluk, is the person convicted.

Vasu had killed his mother Rathi and Sister Vimala on December 12, 2009 by slitting their throats at his residence.

Though Vasu argued that he was mentally ill, the Court forwarded him to Nimhans Bengaluru and later squashed his argument on basis of medical opinion.

The convict has already spent 7 years in jail which will be adjusted with the present sentence.
