Man charged for smuggling stolen wristwatches, arrested

Kasaragod: A man who was absconding after he was caught for his involvement in smuggling expensive wristwatches of leading international brands has been arrested.
The accused Shafi Mohammed (48) from Uduma Oravankara was arrested by the Hosadurga police. He has been handed over to Mumbai custom officials.

The incident occurred on October 15, 2002 when Shafi was arrested by the Mumbai custom officials for transporting as many as 4000 stolen imported wristwatches at Mumbai airport.

He was then sent to jail and after his release he was absconding even after several warrants were sent to him to appear before court. Hence, Mumbai court charged him under COFEPOSA Act and had sought help from Kasaragod police for his arrest.
