Man arrested for murdering wife 16 years ago

Mangalore: A man who killed his wife 16 years ago, viz. in 1998 has finally been caught by the District Crime Intelligence Bureau (DCIB). He was arrested in Tamil Nadu by the DCIB police.

 

The arrested has been identified as Raja alias Raju, a resident of Kumpala in Bantwal.

Speaking to the reporters on the case, on Friday September 5, superintendent of police (SP) Dr Sharanappa said that on July 21, 1998, Raju, in a drunken state stabbed his wife Baby to death following a quarrel with her and fled the spot.

A case had been registered under section 302 of IPC against him, the police had the information that he had escaped to Tamil Nadu. However even after several attempts to nab him, the police were unsuccessful.

Recently, the DCIB police received information that he was staying in Dharapuram taluk of Tirupur district in Tamil Nadu. The police arrested him and brought him to the city.

The SP appreciated the efforts of police personnel Uday Rai, Taranath S, Palani Geli, Iqbal A E, Vasunaga, DCIB assistant SI Sanjeeva Purusha and others who were part of the investigation and awarded  cash and certificates.
