Bantwal: Chandrashekaraiah dons his traffic policeman’s uniform. He does his routine job of signalling the vehicles to move and stop on road. He even brings to book traffic violators. Then, what is so special about Chandrashekaraiah that entire Bantwal looks up to him as a miracle man.
The reason is simple. This is the man who brought out Bantwal from the daily traffic snarls.
At a point of time when BC Road had become the worse patch of road for commuters due to regular traffic blocks caused by narrow road, lots of pothole, increase in density of vehicles etc, Chandrashekaraiah refused to be just a traffic policeman.
On assuming charge in Bantwal, Chandrashekaraiah researched on the situation and worked out an action plan.
Soon, he was a solider on mission.
First work he did was to close the potholes on the roads. This yielded immediate results and the locals realised that the man has capabilities to solve the traffic snarls.
Hence, when he then spoke of clearing illegal petty shops occupying the footpaths, specifically in Melkar area, the town stood in his support.
The illegal shops were cleared and the road was widened. Today Melkar is a whole new town that ‘breathes-free’.
He repeated the same model in BC Road Circle as well.
On realising that B C Road-Kalladka Highway and Narahari Hill circles had been hitting headlines with fatal accidents, he turned to the precarious pockets, pressured the highway authority and made sure that the road was widened so as to save precious lives.
Taking note of the work done by Chandrashekaraiah, various organisations including Rotary club have felicitated him.
Chandrashekaraiah speaking to NewsKarnataka said,” We need public support to put an end to any issue. In Panemangaluru too we need to work as we did in BC Road-Melkar-Narahari town.
Ramakrishna Alva, president of Bantwal Muncipal council said, “Being a police officer his work in widening road, eviction of petty shops is commendable.”
