Mangaluru: The Rotary Club of Mangalore North felicitated the Asian Games Gold Medalist M R Poovamma with its Golden Jubilee Star Achiever Award at a event organised at the Rotary Balabhavan, Mangaluru on September 25.

Secretary of SDM Education Society, Ujire Dr B Yashovarma was the chief guest and felicitated Poovamma. Rtn Rohinath P, District Governor of RI Dist 3181 was the guest of honour.

Rohinath P inducted Poovamma officially as the honorary member of the Rotary Club Mangalore North.

M R Poovamma in reply to the felicitation said, “Thanks to the Rotary club for showering blessings for the second time which has inspired me to achieve more in my field”.

Dr. Yashovarma in his message said, “It is a pleasure to share the stage with two of my old students, Poovama and Rohinath who are now a stalwarts. It was a dream to see the star athletes face to face in our childhood days. It is because of Poovamma, that we are able to see star athletes amidst us”.

“It is not the gold medal but the efforts that goes in getting one need to be recognized. Normally we tend to calculate the population of our country rather rarely consider the efforts of people to get into sports”, he added.

Rtn Dr. Sudarshan, Rotary Club Mangalore North President, Rtn Vishwanath Shetty M, Secretary, Zonal AG Rtn Divakar Amin President elect were present during the occasion.

Invocation was done by Suchitra, Rtn Alwyn D’Sa introduced the guest and Rtn G K Udupa rendered the vote of thanks.
