M Chandra Sekhar takes charges as M’luru Police Commissioner

Mangaluru: M Chandra Sekhar took charge as the new Mangaluru City Police Commissioner on Sunday, January 3.

Outgoing commissioner S Murugan welcomed the new Commissioner and handed over all the related documents at the Commissioner’s office in the city following which the latter addressed the media officially.

Born in Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, Chandra Sekhar completed his engineering in aerospace from IIT, West Bengal. After working with Infosys for one-and-a-half-year, he joined the Police Department. He served as DSP Shimla, ADC to Governor of Himachal Pradesh, SI of Bilaspur, SI of Mandi, HP. Chandra Sekhar came on deputation to Karnataka Police Department in 2009. For three months, he worked as SI, Internal Security Division. He then worked as Deputy Commissioner of Police, East Division, Bengaluru City till 2012. For the next two years, he served as the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Karnataka State Fire and Emergency Service. In 2014-15, he served as the Joint Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru City.

Chandra Sekhar said that maintaining law and order in the city, welfare of his men and people friendly policing will be among his top priorities. Asked how he would deal in the communal sensitive city, he said he needs some time to study the background adding he would undertake adequate measures to maintain law and order.
