Mangaluru: In a tragic accident, M C Abbas (74) lost his life in the city on Monday evening. He is said to have been the additional personal secretary to P M Sayeed when he was the Union Minister. The accident occurred when a motorbike lost control and hit him as he was crossing a road in Attavar.
Residing in Attavar, Abbas was crossing the road which led to the mosque on the evening of July 20. At the same time, a rickshaw driver going towards the railway station stopped his vehicle abruptly to pick up a passenger who had indicated him to stop. Due to this sudden halt, a two-wheeler riding who was behind the auto lost control of his vehicle and hit the three wheeler from the back. Following the impact of the hit, the rider identified as Shivraj, further lost control of his vehicle and accidently hit Abbas.
Due to the force of the accident, Abbas got slammed onto the road, as a result of which he suffered serious head injuries. He became unconscious, and was rushed to a private hospital in the city immediately. He was treated in the intensive care unit of the hospital. But owing to the head injuries which were said to be serious, he stopped responding to treatments and breathed his last at arounf 3.30 am on Tuesday, it is said.
The police personnel said that carelessness of the auto rickshaw driver had caused this accident. A case in this connection was registered by the city (east) traffic police station personnel. Abbas has left behind his wife, two sons, and a daughter.
