Mangaluru: The mock inauguration of the Pumpwell flyover was carried out by the Congress leaders on Wednesday.
The mock inauguration was organized under the leadership of MLC Ivan D’Souza.
The leaders and supporters came at the venue wearing masks of the BJP leaders and huge cutouts of BJP state president and parliamentarian Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath and others were installed. The cutouts were garlanded with onion and garlic garlands. Later, they were thrown from the top of the flyover.
The protesters had marched from Gorigudda and reached the flyover.
Ivan D’Souza said, “The city’s name and fame are at stake due to negligence of the BJP leaders. The Pumpwell flyover construction is on over the last one decade and they are still unable to complete the project on time.”
Lashing out at Nalin, he said, “The parliamentarian who speaks about everything on this planet is not able to complete one project. He should be ashamed of himself. He keeps setting deadlines for the inauguration and the officials of the NHAI and the contractor do not even care. When the protests were held in the month of December, at that point in time, Nalin himself had met the protesters and assured them that it will be inaugurated shortly. That assurance too has not been kept up.”
Ivan opined that the Talapady toll gate protest held by the BJP leaders was nothing but a gimmick.
Meanwhile, he has claimed that the flyover construction was carried out in a most unscientific way and that the BJP MLAs and MP were not trustworthy.
