Locals avert major mishap after high tension wire falls on highway

Mangaluru: A major mishap was averted in Thokkottu due to the presence of mind of locals after a high tension wire fell on the road during the ongoing national highway work.

The incident occured on Wednesday evening when a tree cut by the highway workers fell on a electric pole.

The Thokkottu flyover and the road widening work are underway from last two months. On Wednesday poles infront of Netaji hospital were replaced with new ones. Meanwhile, in the evening a huge tree was cut by the highway workers was lifted through a crane. Accidentally the rope tied to the tree broke thereby uprooting the pole. A tourist bus that arrived drove on the cable causing sparks.

However the locals, Police, highway workers and Mescom workers stopped the vehicles, cleared the way and averted a major mishap.

The incident disrupted traffic for half an hour.
