Mangaluru: Travelers rejoice! The wait is over for a faster connection between Lakshadweep and Mangaluru. On Thursday, the high-speed vessel ‘Parali’ arrived at the Old Mangaluru Port, marking the revival of the passenger ferry service after a four-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This marks a significant improvement, cutting travel time from 13 hours to a much swifter seven hours.
The ‘Parali’ carried 160 passengers, including crew, on its inaugural voyage, offering a welcome respite from the longer journey times experienced previously. This revitalized service is expected to boost economic activity in Mangaluru and provide a significant advantage for tourism in Lakshadweep.
“This is a different experience,” remarked one of the passengers on board ‘Parali,’ highlighting the excitement surrounding the relaunch. Local authorities are hopeful that the service will continue.
This is currently an experimental operation. Further developments regarding the service’s permanence are awaited.
