Kasargod:The inter-state dacoits who were nabbed by Kumble police are involved in several cases of automobile thefts, said Kumble circle inspector C B Thomas.
The police seized a Maruti Swift car that was stolen from Bijapur and Maruti Zen car stolen from Beltangady hidden in a quarry at Ukkinadka, near Perla, here. The quarry was owned by the arrested Samsuddin.Kumble police informed Karnataka police about the seizure of these cars.The accused confessed that they have sold the stolen cars in Bangalore,Hubli and other cities.
The group of inter-state dacoits were active since a few years in stealing automobiles and selling them, making Kasargod as their center of operation.The police suspect the group is involved in over such 25 cases.
Kumble police intercepted a Scorpio with 4 occupants who were returning after burgling the house of a certain entrepreneur in Chattanjal and Uppala, near here on September 28.The accused abandoned their Scorpio and fled, while the police managed to get a ID card of an accused which was found in Scorpio.
With the ID card, the police arrested Samsuddin (25),a resident of Kuddupadav and a quarry owner in Ukkinadka,Raju yane Narayan (25), a labourer from Bangalore, Mohammed Kasim and Ashraf(35), natives of Beltangady.
The interrogation revealed the group has greater role in automobile thefts across Karnataka.The key accused Ammi is absconding while the police laid a manhunt to nab him at the earliest.
