Mangalore : The famous pilgrim shrines of Dakshina Kannada-the Kukke Sri Subrahmanya Temple tops the list of highest revenue earning shrines which are under the control of the Muzrai department of the State Government.
The temple is thronged by devotees from far and near throughout the year. Even VIPs including cricketers, film stars and political leaders have been regular visitors to this temple to offer Sevas like Sarpa Samskara, Ashlesha Bali and Naga Pratishte.
The Kukke Temple has earned a record revenue of Rs 66.76 crore during the year 2012-13 which is an all-time high. Second in the list is Male Mahadeshwara Temple at Chamrajnagar district which has earned Rs 31 crores. The Kollur Sri Mookambika Temple stands third with an estimated revenue of Rs 20 crores.
The revenue of Kukke Sri Subrahmanya Temple has seen a substantial rise over the past few years. The Temple which earned a revenue of Rs 24.3 crores in 2007-2008, earned Rs 35.75 crores and Rs 44.82 crores during 2009-2009 and 2009-2010 respectively. The revenue earned during 2011-12 stood at an all time high of Rs 56.24 crores while in 2012-13 the revenue increased substantially to Rs 66.76 crores.
