Kudroli Temple sets the trend;appoints 2 widows as priests

Mangalore:In another path breaking initiative, the Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatheshwara  Temple has appointed two widows as the temple priests. The women priests will perform the pooja at the sanctum sanctorum  of the temple on October 6.

Informing this to reporters here, former union minister B Janardhana Poojari said  the two women priests have been trained since the past four months and they will perform the first pooja at the Anna Poorneshwari Gudi as well as the sanctum sanctorum of the Temple on October 6. The women priests will also install the idol of Lord Dattatreya in the temple precincts. The ceremony will be followed by a Maha Annasantharpane, he informed.

He said by appointing two women as priests, an effort has been made to give equal rights to women.

Poojari also informed that the idols of Goddess Sharada, Navadurgas and Lord Ganesha will be installed at the Sri Gokarnanatha Hall of the Temple on October 5 at 11 am. Ramesh Kumar and Urmila Ramesh Kumar couple of Janatha Constructions will inaugurate the ceremony.

A book entitled “Manasiddhare Marga” authored by B Devadas Contractor, Temple Development Committee Member, will be released on October 12  at 5.30 pm at the Santoshi Kala Mantap of the Temple, he informed.

HS Sairam, President of the Temple Management Committee, Raghavendra Kuloor, Padmaraj R and Harikrishna Bantwal, Members, were present at the press meet.
