K’taka elections: City compol briefs about security measures

Mangaluru: Briefing about the security measures taken in view of Karnataka assembly elections Commissioner of Police Vipul Kumar, on Tuesday, May 8, informed that revenue and police officers have identified 201 critical polling booths, out of the 877 polling booths in Mangaluru City Police limits.

Addressing a press meet at his office, Vipul Kumar said, “Mangaluru City police consists of four legislative assembly constituencies. There are 26 check-posts functioning out of which 6 are in interstate borders”.

“Under the Mangaluru City Police limits we have deployed 14 flying squads and 12 static surveillance teams, 11 companies of (Central Armed Police Force) CAPF, 27000 police men and officers for bundobust duties. We have obtained 1908 weapons from licensed gun holders. We have also booked 753 security cases in the wake of assembly elections,” he said.

“A total of 2756 rowdy sheeters and 90 potential trouble makers are under surveillance. Four detenues were booked under Goonda Act. We have passed six externment orders against trouble mongers. We have booked one case of Illegal arms raid and 2 cases of illicit liquor raid in the city,” Compol said.

Continuing further commissioner said, ” We have booked 13 criminal cases during the Election Code of conduct. Eight cases of seizures by flying squad and police team (Rs 3 lakh cash, flex, BJP party shawls, sound box, DVD player and car). The deputy commissoner has issued ban order on liquors from 10 May 6:00 pm to 12 May 6:00 PM. There will be ban order implement under section 144 Cr.PC promuglated across Dakshina Kannda from 10 May 6:00 PM to 13 May 6:00 PM.”
