Mangaluru: There was a verbal exchange between the newly appointed Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati and Karnataka State Safai Karmachari Commission chairman Narayana on Friday.

The commissioner drew flak from the chairman, after she refused to the enter the apartment of civic workers, which was in a dilapidated condition.  The chairman visited a few quarters in Pandeshwar and then proceeded to the quarters in Jeppu Mahakali Padpu.

Narayana  asked Korlapati to accompany him during his visit to the quarters of the Safai Karmacharis. In reply, the commissioner said that she would visit the quarters after verifying the files on Monday. Mr. Narayan then went ahead to see the quarters.

After he returned, he asked Ms. Korlapati to visit the quarters. When she gave him the same reply, an annoyed Narayana accused her of not following the rules and accompanying him during his visit. He also objected to her speaking over her mobile phone, to which Ms. Korlapati replied that she was speaking to a corporation official.

Then, Mr. Narayan left the place stating that he would report the conduct of the official to the State government. Ms. Korlapati too left the place immediately. The residents of the quarters felt that she could have accompanied Mr. Narayan in to the apartment to see the state of the houses.
