Udupi: The Komu Sauharda Vedike staged a protest in front of Clock Tower followed by a rally to SP office agitating over the issues of communal policing by the police department on Wednesday, March 5.

The Vedike allegedly stated that the department has made up false cases against the minority community and also have failed to discharge the duties in connection with two cases of assault in Gangolli and Nejar, earlier.
The president of Komu Sauharda Vedike, G Rajashekhar accusingly said that the police here are careless when it comes to minority community. Police are to provide security to the public, but they are behaving not less than a criminal. They are associated with Sanaparivar moves, he added.
Elaborating it further he said, “The best example for the religious bias among the police officials are the cases of assault at Gangolli and Nejar cases wherein complaints were registered against Muslims. In Gangolli , the members of Hindu organizations attacked a couple belonging to Muslim community. In Nejar a man was humiliated and attacked by the 12 members (Hindus) for converting himself to Muslim community.”
“Karavali and Dakshina Kannada are usually known to be as peaceful places but such incidents are responsible for the gradual change that has been noticed”, G Rajashekhar added.
Moreover he also said that in both the cases the police compelled the Muslims to give a wrong statement so that the case could be registered.
A memorandum was submitted to the SP during the protest; G Rajashekhar demanded justice for the public without any discrimination and requested to take strict action against the people who are responsible to create such communal violence.
