KMC Attavar launches 30bed Physical Medicine Rehab PMR Dept

Mangaluru: KMC Hospital Attavar is proud to announce the launch of its cutting-edge Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) Department also known as Rehabilitation Medicine. This new department is dedicated to providing comprehensive rehabilitation services to patients in our community and beyond, with a focus on improving the quality of life for individuals facing physical and functional challenges such as Spinal Cord Injury, Brain injury, Stroke, Cerebral Palsy, limb amputations.

It’s a 30 bedded specialised centre with In-Patient facilities integrating medical services, therapy services like physiotherapy and psychology along with two specialised PMR consultants which a 1st of its kind in Dakshina Kannada.

The distinguished Chief Guest, Vinayaka Rao, Founder Sevadhama Rehabilitation Centre, Sowthadka & Treasurer Sevabharathi(R.) Kanyady, officially inaugurated the department by performing the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Dr Dilip G Naik, Pro Vice Chancellor – MAHE Mangalore Campus, honoured the occasion as the esteemed Guest of Honour.

Vinayak Rao appreciated the efforts of KMC Hospital Attavar in starting a specialised PMR department which will help Spinal Cord Injury, Brain injury, Stroke and people with other disabilities to get back to an active functional life inspite of their limitations. Vinayak emphasized the importance of raising public awareness and garnering support for this department, particularly for patients with disabilities.

Dr Ann Mary John, Head of the PMR Department, expressed her enthusiasm for the launch: “We are excited to introduce this specialized department at KMC Hospital Attavar. Our mission is to help patients regain their independence and improve their overall quality of life through evidence-based rehabilitation practices.”

The event was attended by Dr B Unnikrishnan – Dean of KMC Mangalore, Dr John Ramapuram – Medical Superintendent of KMC Hospital Attavar, Associate Deans, Heads of the departments, doctors, and staff.

Recently, KMC Hospital Attavar achieved the rare feat of being NABH Excellence Level Certified under Nursing Services, which is the highest level of accreditation for a hospital. KMC Hospital Attavar is also accredited by NABH Accreditation Standards for Hospitals, 5th Edition, for providing the highest quality of health services, which is another rare achievement by the institution.
