Mangaluru: The sand supply issue may reach a reasonable resolution by next week with the District In-charge Minister U T Khader convening a meeting and instructing the Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil to issue permits to the sand miners soon.
Addressing the reporters at Circuit House on Friday, November 2, Khader said that he had already instructed the DC to rectify all the problems related to sand mining within a week and issue permits to the sand miners. He also informed that he had instructed the concerned to fix the rate for sand, ensuring no poor people are forced to shell out too much money.
Khader said, “The district administration has already identified 22 sand blocks in the non-CRZ areas for which tender will be floated soon. In order to provide sand for government constructions, sand will be extracted from Thumbay vented dam and dumped at Thumbay yard”, he added.
Control room to be set up to address grievances
Khader informed that it had been instructed to set up a control room in DC’s office in order to rectify the problems pertaining to sand. “If people are forced to pay more than the fixed price, they can complain to the control room and seek action against the seller. The DC has already consented to open a control room for addressing such issue”, he said.
‘Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) should be formed to probe Rafale deal’
Khader condemned the move of the union government of sending the CBI director on leave, all of a sudden. “Though some major guidelines are to be followed to appoint or suspend the director of CBI, no such procedures were followed while taking the decision. As the Supreme Court sought a report from the Director of CBI, with regard to Rafale Scam, Narendra Modi hatched a plan to send him on leave to prevent him from following the apex court’s direction. As it is believed that Rafale scam is one of the biggest scams ever, a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) should be formed immediately in order to conduct a detailed investigation,” he urged.
