Bantwal: Kerala police who crossed the Karnataka border were caught by the media persons collecting penalty after checking vehicles. The incident occurred near Saradka on Kalladka-Kangangad inter-state highway on Friday.

Following Prime Minister Modi’s visit to poll-bound Kerala, the police stepped up security in the border areas. But the police officials, who went a step ahead of the senior officer’s instructions and crossed the border were found imposing fine on the commuters in Karnataka region. For an hour or so, they were checking vehicles.
The Kerala border starts 500m away from Saradka checkpost near Adyanadka in Vittal-Kasargod road. The police stopped their jeep 100m away from the border and were imposing fine only on commuters from Karnataka. But the bikers from Kerala were not stopped even if they were seen riding without helmets, which angered the commuters from Karnataka.
Based on complaints from vehicle owners, media persons went to the spot and while asked on how they would impose fine on commuters of other state, the police did not respond. They had stopped a lorry on middle of the road which disrupted vehicular movement too. After an hour, the police left the spot.
Dakshina Kannada district police superintendent and other officials have assured action.
