Kasargod : An under trial  who had escaped from the clutches of the police while  being  escorted to the prison after being produced before a Kasargod court on May 27, Monday, was arrested at Kuttikol by a team led by Kasargod Circle Inspector Sunil Kumar.

The  accused  who has been re-arrested is CP Abdul Lathif alias Charal Lathif (43) of Chattanchal. He is said to be a notorious thief. He who was lodged in the Kannur jail was on Monday produced before the Kasargod court in connection with a case, but gave the cops a slip during the return journey near the Vidyanagar bus stand.  Though the police tried to chase him, he was successful in escaping.

Reports said Lathif who remained in hiding in the forests at Cherkala that night had  gone to Kanattur by an auto the next morning. He had bought a pair of slippers from a shop there and had returned to  the forests. The police who gathered information regarding his whereabouts began a search in the forest and arrested him near Kuttikol after he tried to flee in an autorickshaw.
