Mangaluru: The newly formed Karnataka Rashtra Samiti (KRS) is planning to field candidates in all 60 wards of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) in the upcoming urban local polls scheduled to be held on November 12.

So far, the new-born party has confirmed candidates for 15 wards under the MCC. It plans to invite independent candidates to contest on its ticket in the elections.

According to a report by TOI, Ravi Krishna Reddy, state president of the KRS said that the party is realistic about making a difference with its value-based and corruption-free governance model.

“We are firm believers in technology to usher in ease of doing business and taking the smart city project forward, bringing transparency in the MCC administration, moping up taxes due to the civic body without any pilferage or losses in the collection process,” he said.

Reddy, who is a former state convener of the Aam Aadmi Party, said that by crowdfunding for its expenses, the party can make people stakeholders.

“We have told candidates contesting under the party symbol (the whistle) that they can’t raise loans nor go bankrupt. The focus should be on vigorous, effective and crowdfunded campaign, he told TOI.

The KRS also plans to set up ward committees, thereby decentralising the power.
