Karnataka budget favours women and coastal region

Mangaluru: In the budget presented by Chief minister Yediyurappa for the year 2021-22 on Monday March 8, women-oriented programmes received a grant of Rs 37,188 crore.

The coastal region too benefitted from the new Budget. CM announced the plan to establish an advanced biotech innovation centre for aqua-marine products at an estimated expenditure of Rs 6 crore to encourage the production of light food items utilizing the bioactive compunds available from fish and seaweed.

Another benefit is the establishment of value addition centre for the processing of fishery products at an expenditure of Rs 6 crore through Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation. This will help the fishery sector to have value added products thus increasing the income of fishers.

On the topic of tourism, the budget offers impetus to tourist infrastructure at certain beaches. There is a comprehensive development of Trasi, Maravanthe, Ottinene and other beaches in Udupi district. A grant of Rs 10 crore has been earmarked for development of tourism infrastructure in Someshwara beach of Byndoor taluk.

CM announced that a four-lane connectivity road at an estimated expenditure of Rs 100 crore under Bharat Mala Project from National Highway 66 to the Kasargod harbour of Honnavar will be established.
