Mangalore:Karnataka Bank, the premier private sector bank headquartered in Mangalore has bagged the Runner Up position in the ASSOCHAM [Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India] Social Banking Excellence Award, 2013, under the “Private Sector Banks” category. The Award is given in recognition of the significant initiatives being undertaken by the Bank in the sphere of social banking.
P Jayaram Bhat, Managing Director and Chief Executive officer of Karnataka Bank received the Award from Dr. C.Rangarajan, Chairman, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, at a glittering ceremony held at New Delhi on September 16, Monday.
Karnataka Bank has been strengthening its rural services by extending services to rural unbanked areas through its Financial Inclusion branches and USBs (Ultra Small Branches). The Bank has also embarked upon the BC model (Business Correspondent Model).
Under priority sector lending including Agricultural and Weaker Section Lending, the Bank has surpassed the RBI prescribed mandatory lending targets.
Through the ASSOCHAM Social Banking Excellence Award, the bank’s efforts to integrate social responsibility into its business strategies have been well recognized at national level, P Jayaram Bhat, MD and CEO of the Bank said. He further added that the Bank will continue to explore ways and means to enhance the welfare of the society.
