Mangaluru: Kannada film “Diya”, which revolves around a love triangle, is set to hit the silver screen on February 7.

“The unique feature of this film is that, even though it is of the romance genre, there is not a single song. The film instead, chooses to rely on the background music by Ajaneesh Lokanath, a veteran music director to entertain the audience,” says Pruthvi Ambar, who plays one of the lead characters.

Speaking to the reporters here on Friday, January 31, Pruthvi said that he was selected for the film after auditioning more than 20 times. “I got the opportunity to act in this film after having acted in serials. As this film is directed by popular director K A Ashok, who had directed the blockbuster film ‘6-5=2’, I hope this film will go on to do wonderfully in the sandalwood film industry.”

Speaking about his experience, Pruthvi said, “Acting in a serial and acting in a film are completely different. I have now received a different experience by acting in this movie. In this film, you will find a European style of narration with three main characters. Initially, the film was named ‘Three Smilies’, but it was changed to ‘Diya’, the name of the heroine. There were rehearsals before the work and we spent about 18 months in rehearsals itself. Once the rehearsals were done, we began shooting.”

Adding about the premier shows, where students were moved to tears, he said, “The film team had arranged two premier shows, one for the technical team and the other for college students. Some students had tears in their eyes after watching an emotional scene where my character converses with his mother, who is played by veteran actress Pavithra Lokesh. The film has succeeded in drawing out the emotions of the audience.”

Pruthvi has played different roles in more than 15 Tulu films. “Even though it took nearly four years to complete, the film came out rich and I am sure that the people will accept it,” he said.

Kannada serial “Nagini” fame Deekshith Shetty plays another of the three lead characters and Khushi, of Kannada film “Soda Buddi” fame plays the female lead.

The film will be released on Feb 7 in most of the multiplexes throughout the state.
