Bantwal: The Bantwal TMC meeting held on Monday, August 4 resolved to immediately take up the pending works of the Kanchinadakapadavu waste treatment plant   with a view to find a permanent solution to the garbage problem in the town.

The meeting held under the presidentship of TMC Chairperson Vasanthi Chandappa held detailed  discussions on the garbage issue. Councillors demanded that the works be resumed immediately after shifting an Anganavadi and a school in the locality. Finally, following mounting pressure from members, it was decided to invite tenders for the works.

Councillor Govinda Prabhu drew the attention of the TMC towards the collection of higher fee by contractors, which is over and above the fee prescribed by the  TMC for door-to-door collection of wastes. Another Councillor Devadas Shetty also placed before the meeting a receipt of the higher fee collected. As the meeting was underway Govinda Prabhu even received a call from a shopkeeper in the town complaining of collection of higher fee. He immediately transferred the call to TMC Chief Officer Leena Britto. She then ensured that the shopkeeper handed over the receipt  to the TMC and the meeting decided to print the receipts on behalf of the TMC and to provide diesel to the tractor of the contractor.

Water rate hike opposed:  The issue of revising the water rates  as per the  directive of the DC came up for discussion and the proposal was widely opposed by members who said the water rate revision would not be justifiable when the water supply scenario was not satisfactory.

Lokayukta probe sought: Member Mohammad Nandabettu  referred to the irregularities during the previous regime in the TMC. Continuing the discussions, yet another member Devadas Shetty demanded that there should be a Lokayukta probe into the same. Though much debate ensued on the topic, the meeting failed to arrive at any decision.

TMC Vice President Yasmin, Councillors Monish Ali, Suguna Kini, Iqbal, B Mohan, Praveen Bantwal and others participated in the discussions.
