Mangaluru: Kanachur Hospital & Research Centre, A unit of Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences, observed the month of February as Cancer Awareness & Prevention month. Cancer is a dreaded non communicable disease which kills all sections of the society with no bias towards the rich or poor.
There are billions of dollars spent annually into getting respite of this disease. Kanachur Hospital and Research Centre, has helped observe this month into having a Walkathon – Walk of Hope for a Cancer Free Society ; on the 24th of Feb, partnering with Decathlon – Mangalore. More than 450 participants had assembled for the event and successfully completed the 5 kilometer walking stretch from Bharath Mall to Wenlok Hospital via City Centre Mall & back.
Haji UK Monu – Chairman, Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) inaugurated the program. He was happy to see the turnout and he mentioned that these activities should be taken to as; Dr Rohan Monis ; Chief Administrative Medical Officer, KIMS; Dr Ratnakar Bhat – HOD, Dept of Pharmacology, KIMS; Dr (Col.) K.G.Kiran – HOD, Dept of Community Medicine, KIMS; Dr (Brig.) R.P.Singh – Asst Prof, Dept of Community Medicine, KIMS; Dr ShahNawaz – HOD, Dept of Forensic
Medicine, KIMS; Dr Raja Shekar – Asst Prof, Dept of Community Medicine, KIMS; along with the other faculty & students were present for this event.
After the 5k walk, all participants were given a Free Blood Pressure and a Blood sugar Check up by the Kanachur Healthcare Team – comprising of Doctors and Nurses. The Kanachur ALS Ambulance was around the venue, for emergencies if any. The Mangalore Citizen enjoyed participating in this amazing initiative and were really sporty.
Kanachur Hospital & Decathlon Mangalore concerted a joint effort into bringing the Cancer Awareness to Mangalore. Finisher’s medals & certificates were given to the participants. Kanachur Hospital & Research Centre, is a 650 bed tertiary healthcare facility with round the clock OT, Pharmacy, ICU’s, Labour room, Ambulance & Laboratory services.
