Mangaluru: Karnataka Christian Educational Society (KACES), have organized ‘Saamarasya: Festival of Food and Culture for Peace’ at Balmatta, Mangaluru.

Addressing the media persons during a press meet held at Mangaluru Press Club, Rev K Sagar Sundar Raj, Treasurer of KACES said, “Karnataka Christian Educational Society, (KACES) Mangaluru as part of its mandate on peace initiatives is spearheading an event titled ‘Saamarasya 2019: Festival of Food and Culture for Peace’, in association with organization ‘Interfaith Coalition for Peace’ (ICP), New Delhi, from February 1 to 3, between 6 PM to 10 PM at KACES ground, Balmatta, Mangaluru.”

“Dakshina Kannada, the land of living faiths and religions is known for its plurality, culture of tolerance and peace. However, recent developments have made it a district of hatred brimming with religious intolerance. Peace groups, interfaith dialogues, seminars and colloquium have been initiated for building a culture of peace. However, these initiatives have their own limitation as they adopt the ‘traditional way’ involving the apex leadership from the socio-economic and religious arenas. It is important to note that the fabric of vivid society is woven from continual communication and exchange between people-through interpersonal, informal and cultural processes as well as through formal institution and official channels. Thus, food and culture are intertwined with the lives of people; it becomes a potential tool to nourish peaceful living and inter-faith conflict resolution,” he added.

“Many prestigious educational institution and cultural teams will be performing for the cultural festival. There will be Cultural Program by Alva’s Education Foundation on February 1, by CSI Vane’s Memorial Church, Bhadravathi on February 2, and by various well known Groups on February 3. Food festival is an opportunity to taste the traditional and ethnic food. Various Tulunadu vegetarian and non-vegetarian (halal) foods will be made available,” said Sundar Raj.

Rt. Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha Bishop of Mangaluru Diocese will inaugurate ‘Saamarasya 2019’. Shri Dr. Mohan M. Alva, Chairman, Alva’s Education Foundation will be the Chief Guest. Rev. Dr. Packiam T. Samuel, General Secretary Interfaith Coalition for Peace, will be the Guest of Honour and Rev. Dr. H. R. Cabral will preside the function.
