Mangaluru: A journalist from Belthangady was allegedly assualted and threatened by a group of miscreants on Friday.

The journalist has been identified as Asif, who works for a local Kannada newspaper.

The incident took place when the journalist was returning home on Friday. The miscreants who waylaid his scooter assaulted him and also threatened to kill him.

Meanwhile, District Working Journalists Union has condemned the incident and has demanded immediate arrest of the assaulters.

The association president Jagannath Shetty Bala said, “Several incidents of assault on journalists have been reported these days. They have been obstructed from performing thier duty. Hence, We will urge the police commissioner to take necessary action to stop such incidents in future and allow them to work without any fear, he said.
