Mangalore :Former union minister Janardhan Poojary has strongly condemned the state governments plans to bring Mutts under the control of the state Muzrai Department.
Speaking to reporters at Press Club here on December 13, Friday, Poojari said the government should not interfere with the Mutts as it may hurt the sentiments of devotees. There are so many Mutts like Tumkur Siddaganga Mutt, Suttur Mutt, and Krishna Mutt which serve the poor and needy people by involving themselves in social work, Poojari further said.
The government which now wants to control Mutt, may later also want to control churches and mosques, Poojari said and clearly stated that the government cannot control a religious body.
At the same time, Poojari had a word for praise for Siddaramaiah when he said,”Presently the Chief Minister is doing good work but a few are trying to spoil his efforts. The government should not hurt anyones religious sentiments.”
Congress leaders Kallige Tharanath Shetty, Suresh Ballal, Harikrishna Bantwal and Arun Coelho were present during the press meet.
