Mangalore: A group of like-minded people and literary enthusiasts have come together under the aegis of Abhimatha to organise a literary fest called ‘Jana Nudi’ aimed at showcasing the richness of the culture and literature of the region. The event  will be held on December 14, Saturday and December 15, Sunday at Kalaangann, Shakthinagar, informed litterateur Dr H S Anupama.

Addressing the media in a press meet held on Sunday December 8, she said, “The essence of Literature has been destroyed and it is our responsibility to uplift it. In the current scenario literature is dominated by politicians and capitalists.”

She strongly condemned any fundamentalist approach towards literature and said literature should reach the common man.

She said Jana Nudi aims at focussing on the common man  “In the age of liberalisation, commercialisation has taken over religion, education, media and even literature and culture. Conferences are being held to make a profit or for brand building. The real issues that affect people are forgotten. We wanted to hold a meet that goes to the core of the issues and strives solely for literature,” said H.S. Anupama, writer.

She also informed  that the budget of the event will be around Rs 80,000, which will be mainly donated by people encouraging such issues.

The event described as a parallel literary fest to Alva’s Nudisiri, will be attended by prominent writers and sessions on various topics including ‘Mahile-Varthamana Mathu Chaluvali’, ‘Samakaalina Savaalugalu- Sadyathegalu’   and Karavaliya Tallanagalu” will be organised.

Jyothi Chelyooru, litterateur and Jeevanraj Kuthar, Abhimatha Mangalore, were present during the press meet.
