Kasargod: A bike rider lost his  life while the pillion rider sustained critical injuries  when their two-wheeler was knocked down by a car at a place called Bekal Kuniya on Tuesday July 22 afternoon.

The deceased  has been identified as PK Nitheesh (21), while the injured is Akhil (21). Both are  students of Vidyanagara ITI. Eyewitnesses said the bike riders were over speeding and had tried to escape the eyes of the  police who were on a checking spree in the area, resulting in the mishap.

Nitheesh is learnt to have  died on the spot.  Akhil has been admitted to a private  hospital in Mangalore. Bekal police have registered a case.
